On February 24th through to the 25th, I camped on the Bob Bear trail at Strawberry, Arizona with my Boy Scout troop. While there, we hiked a little more to see some waterfalls, and we camped fairly close to a river.

I tried to pack lighter, packing my hiking chair, air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, and a set of thermals. I also packed a lot more food this trip, being around 24 bags of chips, beef jerky, pancake mix, and M&M’s.

Compared to the Superstition Mountains hike, this hike was harder on Sunday, and a lot more harder. This is because of instead hiking up, we hiked down on the first day, Saturday, into the ravine there to reach the river. We had to hike across a very rocky terrain, while also occasionally hiking on an ice patch. We first came across what we thought might be a good camping spot, around 1 mile higher than what our actual spot was, so we hiked down further. It was much steeper than the rest of the trail so far.

After setting up camp, we hiked down to a fairly large waterfall, that split into two paths. While hiking there, we got a little separated after cross the river leading to the waterfall, but we managed to find each other. The waterfall split into the main river, and a little pool that had a sign over it saying, “KEEP OUT OF TOILET BOWL.”  We didn’t try to find the source of the river, as it would require us to hike several more miles and we didn’t want to, and we couldn’t do that without it becoming dark. For dinner, we had skewers, which I should’ve brought seasoning or sauce for.

The next morning was cold. It was so cold in fact, that I wished I put on my thermal the last night. But anyways, breakfast was a little bit of a disaster, as the M&M pancakes didn’t cook properly, so we ended up eating scrambled pancake with melted chocolate. After washing all the dishes at the river, we packed up camp and took some pictures by the little waterfalls, pictured right. As I said before, the hike back to the cars was hard. We stopped more than hiking down, and we were sweating and exhausted by the time we got back. When returning, we stopped for Chipotle, where I helped someone pay for their meal, then dropped us off to our parents.
